National Gardening Week, May 2019

In celebration, Aberfeldy Centre hosted its own variety of gardening classes for children!

Run by the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS), National Gardening Week 2019 is held from 29th April – May 5th and is the UK’s largest celebration of gardening. The week raises awareness of the positive impact that gardens and gardening can bring to individuals and communities alike, inspiring us and the next generation of gardeners to enjoy growing and visiting green spaces. The week also highlights that even in urban spaces, we all have an opportunity to grow delicious and healthy foods whether it be on a windowsill or an allotment!

In celebration, Aberfeldy Centre hosted its own variety of gardening classes for children.  The children helped with digging, sowing and planting of their favourite vegetables! They will come after school to water and tend to their plants. Gardening sessions have been giving children a chance to learn about their environment and understand the importance of growing and eating their greens

Tommy, who loves carrots now has to patiently wait for his carrots to grow!

Gardening not only provides us with a healthy crop of fruits, vegetables, herbs and spices, but provides a space for mindfulness, connecting with nature and getting physically active.  If you would like to get involved with community gardening please contact Victoria.Coakley@poplarharca.co.uk
